Fun and Focus

Fun and useful behaviors to practice with our dogs that can help form the building blocks of tricks and behaviors we teach our dogs both now and in the future.

Fun and Focus

This 6-week class includes games and exercises designed to help our adult dogs be more attentive, calm, and focused. We will explore intermediate and advanced leash handling skills, longer stays (including distracted stays), automatic sits, automatic waits, down from a distance, stronger recalls, obedience from various positions (teaching our dogs to mind even when we are laying down, for instance), and both basic & advanced pointing games. As time allows, we may also explore some dog philosophy, dog-human co-evolutionary theory, and conduct our own behavioral experiments (which, if any, breeds have the highest propensities for certain behaviors? Does exercise affect obedience? Which tones of voice cause our dogs to come when called? Because portions of this class include off-leash exercises, it is not appropriate for highly-reactive dogs. Basic obedience skills should already be in place. Because each class section is a different, many dog-and-handler teams have enjoyed taking this class more than once.

Class Rules.

All dogs signed up for any of our obedience classes are required to be current on their vaccines, including DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies (if over 20 weeks old).

DHPP, is a combination vaccine, it protects your dog from Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus. Bordetella guards your dog against Kennel Cough, a highly contagious air borne virus in dogs. Rabies is a fatal disease in mammals and is required by law for all dogs. You will be required to show written proof of vaccines prior to the first class.

All puppies are to be as current as they can be, for their age, on their vaccines. This means puppies do not have to be completed on their vaccine series, just as far along as they can be.

We accept vaccines given by your veterinarian only, no final vaccines given by a breeder or owner-administered vaccines will be accepted.

Note: if we have never met your dog before we may need to evaluate your dog prior class start date.
